My project is a seat created to demonstrate a material made from textile waste. I approached
the project with many questions about overconsumption, pollution, and raw materials. My
objective was to find a way to create something out of something, rather than something out of
nothing, or at least in part. To find a solution for raw materials that were left behind and became
polluting waste. After extensive research of consumerism and polluting industries, I discovered
that the textile industry is one of the most pollutants releasing industries in the world, due to
overproduction and the use of cheap raw materials to feed excess consumption. I collected
textile waste from a variety of sources, mostly private individuals. Using a pressing technique, I
turned the textiles into a hard material from the family of composites and used it to create a
seat.
